Bruce Swanson is responsible for all technical developments and engineering of the AeroCam wind turbine. Bruce leads a team of 11 engineers and three technologists specializing in mechanical, electrical, structural, data management and aerodynamic engineering. Since Bruce joined BroadStar in 2008, the engineering team has accomplished many milestones, including developing the controlled velocity test platform; conducting aerodynamic and power testing of the 6’x6’ prototype, 10’x16’ and 14’x16’ AeroCam wind turbines; completing a total redesign of the AeroCam system to increase reliability and power production; developing the analytical tools to design cams for optimal power production; preparing design load and analysis documentation for turbine certification; developing a 60kW inverter; developing a turbine control and power rectification system; and implementing a product data management system.
Bruce built his career specializing in product realization at Sandia National Laboratories where he worked for 21 years. His last assignment was the Satellite Systems Senior Manager of the Advanced Systems Program Office. Bruce was responsible for all aspects of this multi-flight satellite sensor and ground station program with annual costs of $180 million involving 700 laboratory personnel. Bruce’s tenure with Sandia included nine years of technical management as well as 18 years of project and program management for various government agencies and military organizations. Bruce received his Masters of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University. |
